SHE4AHA – School Health in Europe for Active and Healthy Ageing

Healthy ageing starts with healthy schools – empowering children for lifelong well-being.

The SHE4AHA project (School Health in Europe for Active and Healthy Ageing) showed how schools can play a vital role in promoting lifelong health and well-being. By applying the Health Promoting School (HPS) approach in 15 pilot schools across Denmark, Belgium, Greece, Italy, and Portugal, the project demonstrated that healthy ageing begins with healthy childhoods. SHE4AHA developed training materials, good practice cases, and policy recommendations that help schools create supportive environments where pupils, teachers, and communities thrive together.

SHE4AHA reminds us that lifelong health begins in childhood – and that every school can be a place for health, growth, and belonging.

For SHE national coordinators:
SHE4AHA offers valuable insights and materials that coordinators can use to strengthen their national HPS networks. The project provides practical examples, evaluation tools, and evidence-based arguments that support advocacy for school health promotion — showing that when schools invest in children’s well-being today, they invest in a healthier, more resilient society tomorrow.
